Review: Apple's iPhone 12 Pro MaxTime: Nov. 30, 2020
The iPhone 12 Pro Max is more than the largest model in the iPhone 2020 collection. The oversized smartphone offers better battery life and even camera specs that improve on what the iPhone 12 has to offer.
iPhone 12 Pro Max - display, design, and size
The exterior appearance of the iPhone 12 Pro Max matches the rest of the iPhone 12 family, with flat sides that create clearer edges for the stainless steel case, bringing it stylishly closer to the iPad Pro line. In addition to the stronger case, Apple It also uses Ceramic Shield tempered glass on the front and back for durability, while the back also has a textured matte glass effect.
Apple continued the durability theme and improved water resistance over the previous generation. Now Apple can withstand water depths of up to twenty feet for 30 minutes. Before that it was four meters for half an hour.
There are four colors to choose from this year, including a “traditional” silver, a slightly lighter and lighter gold than in previous years, accompanied by optimized graphite instead of space gray and the new Pacific blue.
At 6.33 inches tall and 3.07 inches wide, the device sits well in the phablet range, while the thickness of its stable companion, the iPhone 12 Pro, is 0.29 inches. Its size also makes it the heaviest in the 8.03-ounce range.
This volume allows Apple to take a large screen and a battery. The 6.7-inch Super Retina display's resolution is 2778 x 1284 with a pixel density of 458 pixels per inch. In theory, the larger screen provides better content viewing, with a 2 million-to-1 contrast ratio and brightness up to 1200 nits for HDR video driven by the use of OLED. In fact, that extra quarter-inch of diagonal over the iPhone 11 Pro Max doesn't offer the user much that they haven't already provided on the slightly smaller device.
Like the iPhone 12 Pro, it will continue to support True Tone and Wide Color, Haptic Touch, and Apple's widely used oleophobic coating on the screen.
The new phones are nothing more and nothing less than fingerprint magnets. Wipe it with a clean microfiber cloth or even a paper towel every now and then and it will be fine.
iPhone 12 Pro Max - specifications
Internally, the processing power of the iPhone 12 Pro Max does not differ much from other versions as it uses the same powerful A14 Bionic chip as all other iPhone 12 models. This means that it has a high performance processor. six cores consisting of two high-performance cores along with four high-performance cores, the latest 16-core neural engine that can perform up to 11 trillion calculations per second, an improved quad-core GPU, and a new image signal processor.
Ultimately that means an improvement of about 20% over the A13 Bionic in the iPhone 11 Pro for single-core Geekbench benchmarks, while multi-core performance is on the order of 15% better than the year past.
While you don't always see the difference in performance, it does mean that the iPhone 12 Pro Max becomes faster when you open or resume apps, which makes it extremely useful for the camera app. The real importance of this depends on how iOS handles RAM and opens applications.
But where that performance really matters is in handling the processing tasks performed by the camera for HDR and computer photography.
Like the iPhone 12 Pro, the iPhone 12 Pro Max features 6 gigabytes of storage compared to the 4 gigabytes used in the non-Pro models. Another improvement to the Pro models is an extended storage capacity range over the non-iPhone 12 Pro models. Storage capacities start at 128GB, with 256GB and 512GB models available.
While we are confident that a 1TB phone is unavoidable as it moves more and more from desktop and laptop computers to mobile devices as a primary computing tool, it is not here today.
