  • Aomei Partition Assistant: Windows is no longer only for business users

    Time: Oct. 29, 2019

When the people of Aomei contacted me to verify their Partition Assistant Partition Manager again, I was less than happy. It was and is a good utility, but it is a rare user who needs more than the previous version or the Windows disk utility and the Diskpart utility. Then I noticed a bit of PR Blurb: create Windows To Go disks with any version of Windows 8.

AOMEI Partition Assistant is available in two variants: Standard and Pro. The standard version offers everything the average user needs: split, copy, resize, create, delete, format, change properties and even delete safely. There are also useful wizards to copy, resize, convert NTFS to FAT32 and vice versa, as well as migrate to a new hard drive or SSD.

The Pro version offers the ability to convert Windows dynamic disks to basic disks, change the logical partition to the primary partition, change the partition identification and serial number, convert MBR disks to GPT and vice versa, and free up space for a partition assign another. If all this sounds esoteric, you don't need the professional version. However, these features are undoubtedly useful for IT personnel who must regularly maintain disks and partitions.

The user interface of Partition Assistant is familiar to anyone who has used the utility in the last ten years. You will find on the left a list of tasks and on the right an area that contains the readers and partitions of your system. Simply select the drive or partition, and then apply an action in the task list. Everything is easy, provided you understand the drives and partitions. Attendees are the weakest part of the user interface. They are easy to use and work well, but the language is sometimes fragile and the main window disappears for some reason.

Now for this fascinating feature of Windows to Go. Theoretically, you can select a USB flash drive or other external drive as a destination, a Windows 8.1 WIM / ISO file as a source and a live version of Windows 8.x on this external drive, you can start from any PC.

AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional 8.0 Edition Key will create the disk for you, but you must still activate Windows. And I didn't take it to other PCs to see if the activation works. Aomei says there shouldn't be any problem as long as you are using a legitimate version of Windows 8.x.
