  • Wired and Wireless Gaming Mouse-What is the main difference?

    Time: Jul. 21, 2022

If you're a PC gamer, chances are you've come across the centuries-long debate over whether a wired or wireless mouse is better for your needs. It is a delicate problem that, until recently, would have only had one clear answer: connected forever and ever. If you have a wired mouse, you don't have to worry about connectivity as it is physically connected to your PC.

Until 2022, this argument carried a lot of weight and it would have been difficult to find a PC gamer who would have preferred a wireless mouse to a wired mouse. But then something happened that made your head spin and changed the perception of the wireless mouse forever.

Below are some of the main differences between buying a wireless mouse and a wired mouse. When buying a gaming mouse, it's not just connectivity that matters, there are many more decisions to make.

    Cable or cordless?

A wired mouse has a cable by definition. This cable has traditionally made things like input lag not an issue because your mouse plugs directly into a USB port.

Most wireless gaming mice connect to a computer via a USB port over a 2.4GHz connection, but low-latency Bluetooth also plays a role. If you're investing in a decent dedicated wireless gaming mouse, latency shouldn't be an issue. A cable can cause drag during playback and this must be taken into account. The friction of a cable can make the difference between winning or losing in the heat of a particularly raging online battle.

    Precision matters

Whether you choose a wired or wireless gaming mouse, precision is important.

One important factor is the DPI. It stands for "dots per linear inch." The idea is that the higher the DPI. It really depends on the type of game you are playing. While a higher DPI value works well for precision in character movement, it may not work as well for aiming a weapon. If your mouse is too sensitive, pointing can become a problem. Most gaming mice allow you to change the DPI and sensitivity of a mouse.

    Who is responsible?

One of the main differences between a wired mouse and a wireless mouse is charging. A wired mouse does not have the downside of having to charge, while a wireless mouse inevitably has to be in a hurry.

    Play anywhere

This is good for those who took their PC out of their bedroom and created a living room. This means that, in theory, you can go to the couch to play your game instead of sitting at your desk and in your gaming chair.

Choosing the right gaming mouse now is highly dependent on ergonomics - how the mouse feels in your hand and how much you are willing to pay. These should be the first questions you ask yourself, and that in itself shows just how far wireless gaming mice have come.
