Windows 10 new patch caused 100% CPU utilization: Modify the registry to fix.

Sep. 3, 2019

If you're using Windows 10 v1903, accidentally hit the latest cumulative patch KB4512941, it's going to occupy 100% of your CPU that makes you pretty depressed and search assistant Cortana causing the problem, and that there will be a blank response on taskbar.

Microsoft has not publicly acknowledged the problem and does not know when a patch will be released to fix, but we can fix it with an unbeatable registry.

Through research, it is found that the root of the problem is found in SearchUI.exe, the search interface related process, which starts at the following location:

C: \ Windows \ SystemApps \ Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_cw5n1h2txyewy \SearchUI.exe

In theory, even if you disable Cortana, the process will still run, but it usually sits in the background without the user noticing, don't know why it got out of hand this time.

The user can press Win+R to open the running dialog box, It's almost impossible to find a way to run from the start menu because the start menu button doesn't respond at this point.

Enter "regedit" to open the registry, and in turn to open:

Computer \ HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Search

Find "BingSearchEnabled" on the right, and double-click to change the value from 0 to 1, or just delete this entry, and OK now.

Bizarrely, BingSearchEnabled is enabled to display Bing search results when searching locally. It is disabled by default, which speeds up searches and saves resources, but here you have to turn it on to solve the problem.

In addition, while this will fix 100% CPU usage, it will also cause search preferences to be reset, so wait for Microsoft's next fix.
